Case Study

The manager of a food production company knowingly asked his maintenance workers to remove asbestos-containing building material (ACBM) from thermal insulation. The workers removed the ACBM without proper worker safety or containment, and transported it in an open cart through the food processing area, en route to the outside dumpster.  Once the proper authorities were alerted, the facility was shut down. EGSL was retained to determine the extent of the cross contamination within the entire facility as well as possible food contamination. A Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) analysis revealed that the contamination was spread through the entire one-acre facility from floor to rafters.  EGSL prepared an asbestos design procedure for the remediation, worked closely with regulatory and enforcement authorities, and completed the clean ups in a timely matter.
